Safer roads. Safer lives. Safer Barbados. Start with what matters to you: find guidance, use it on your next journey, and help make road safety visible in your community.
A. Find what you need
Choose a starting point based on your role or situation. Each link takes you to existing MakeItSafe guidance.
- I want advice for my road-user group — drivers, riders, pedestrians, cyclists, families and professional drivers.
- I want training — explore MIS Academy and its available course information.
- I need help after a collision — safety, practical next steps and support information.
- I want to know about MakeItSafe — mission and organisation.
B. Turn learning into safer action
Use this short road-safety routine before, during and after a journey.
- Before leaving: check tyres, lights, mirrors, seat belts and vehicle readiness; plan your route and allow enough time.
- While travelling: stay alert, put away distractions, adjust speed to conditions and leave safe space for other road users.
- Share the road: look out for pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and children; be patient and predictable.
- After the journey: reflect on hazards you encountered and one habit you can improve next time.
Continue with Road Safety Tips, The Fatal Four, or The Risks of Careless Driving. This checklist is general guidance, not a substitute for the Barbados Highway Code or professional training.
C. Take part in safer roads
Road safety improves when people share knowledge and contribute. Choose a practical way to participate:
- Volunteer — explore ways to offer your time.
- Partner as a business — explore workplace and corporate involvement.
- Engage children and schools — explore the My Safety Book Competition; confirm current dates and eligibility.
- Support campaigns — see community participation opportunities.
- See event listings — verify dates and registration with the organiser.
