Learn, Practise, Progress: Your Road Safety Journey

Build safer habits in three steps: Learn the risks, practise safer decisions, then progress into structured training. Choose your road-user pathway and move at your own pace.

1. Learn — understand the risks

Start with short, accessible road-safety articles, illustrated guidance, road signs and explanations of everyday hazards.

Your action: Read one topic and identify one risk you can reduce on your next journey.

2. Practise — turn knowledge into safer choices

Open the interactive four-question quiz, downloadable worksheet and personal progress tracker. Use the following short activities to apply what you learned. These are self-check exercises, not accredited tests.

Four-question road-safety self-check

  1. Before starting a journey, which checks should you make on yourself and your vehicle?
  2. What should you do when your phone demands attention while driving?
  3. Why should you reduce speed and increase following distance in heavy rain?
  4. What should you look for when approaching a crossing or an area where children may be present?
Show suggested answers
  1. Check tyres, lights, mirrors, seat belts, alertness and journey readiness.
  2. Do not interact with the phone while driving; stop safely before responding.
  3. Grip and visibility may be reduced and stopping distances may increase.
  4. Look ahead for pedestrians and children, slow down, and be ready to stop safely.

Hazard-recognition scenario

You approach a pedestrian crossing in rain. A vehicle ahead is slowing and visibility is reduced. What is your safest next move? Ease off the accelerator, increase your following distance, scan for pedestrians and prepare to stop without sudden manoeuvres.

Pre-journey vehicle and driver checklist

  • Tyres appear properly inflated and free of obvious damage.
  • Lights, indicators, mirrors and windows are clean and functional.
  • Seat belts and child restraints are used correctly.
  • You are alert, fit to drive and free from impairment.
  • Your route is planned, phone distractions are managed and weather conditions are considered.

3. Progress — deepen your skills

When you are ready for structured learning, explore the existing training information and choose a next step that fits your role.

Track your progress: Record the topics you have read, self-check questions completed, safety habits practised and courses undertaken. Automated learner accounts, scored quiz records and completion certificates are not currently provided by this page.
